Arthur Horace Walker

Rear-Admiral Arthur Horace Walker, O.B.E., R.N. (17 August, 1881 – 3 July, 1947) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Walker was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 March, 1902.[1]

Walker was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 March, 1910.[2]

Walker was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1914.[3]

On 17 July, 1917, Walker was appointed to Castor, additional, for torpedo duties on the staff of Commodore (F) Hawksley. He would remain there through the end of the war.[4]

Post-War

Walker would finally quit his post in Castor to be appointed in command of the sloop Cadmus on 19 March, 1919. He left Cadmus upon being promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1920.[5]

In August 1922, Walker was appointed Captain of the light cruiser Cairo.

He was appointed Director of Torpedoes and Mining between October 1926 and December 1928.

On 9 January, 1929, he was appointed in command of Warspite and as Flag Captain upon transfer of the flag.

After being superseded in command of Hong Kong in August, Walker was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 13 October, 1932 and placed on the Retired List the next day in accordance with the provisions of Order in Council of 9 March, 1914.[6]

In 1936, he was granted permission to apply to become Chief Constable of the Isle of Man or to serve with the Air Raid Precaution Department, Home Office.

World War II

Walker was appointed for work with his Director of Torpedoes and Mining auspices on 21 November, 1939. Miscellaneous work inside the Admiralty with the rank of Captain ensued in 1940 and seemed to take up the duration of the war. On 3 June, 1945, Walker was appointed the Senior Royal Naval Officer on West Coast of Canada. Exactly one year later, he was released from service.[7]

Walker died of heart failure the following year.
